Better Jobs Ontario
Better Jobs Ontario
Better Jobs Ontario (previously known as Second Career) is a provincially funded program that supports unemployed and underemployed individuals in developing the skills needed to secure employment in high-demand fields across Ontario. It is designed for those looking to retrain for a new career—particularly individuals who have been laid off or are finding it difficult to re-enter the workforce.
Eligible applicants may receive up to $35,000 in financial assistance to help cover tuition, books, transportation, and basic living expenses during their training. Additional funding may also be available for childcare and disability-related supports. The program focuses on short-term training—typically two years or less—that leads directly to employment in occupations where workers are needed most.
Better Jobs Ontario is well suited for people who have been laid off, unemployed for an extended period, working in unstable or low-income jobs, or receiving assistance such as Ontario Works or ODSP.
Because everyone’s situation is different, eligibility and the amount of support available can vary. The program also prioritizes certain types of training and approved institutions. The best way to find out whether Better Jobs Ontario is the right fit for your goals is to speak with a member of our team. This program is just one of several training and employment supports available.
